Getting Started
Inviting your team
Last updated 2026-07-02
Northwise is built for teams. Once you've set up your tenant, bring in the people who need access — architects who author content, contributors who participate in reviews, and readers who browse the output.
Available on all plansUnderstand roles before you invite
Roles determine what each person can do. Choose carefully — you can change someone's role later, but it's easier to get it right upfront.
| Role | Use for | Billable? | | --------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------- | | Architect | People who create and edit: elements, principles, deliverables, decisions, requirements | Yes (per plan) | | Contributor | People who participate: raise findings, comment in reviews, respond to assessments | Yes (Team+ only) | | Reader | Everyone else: stakeholders, delivery teams, auditors — read-only | Never |
When in doubt, start people as Readers. They can see everything immediately and you can promote them to Contributor or Architect when they need to act. Reader access is free on every plan.
How to invite
- 1
Open the Invitations page
Go to Settings → Team in the left sidebar. If you don't see Settings, you're not a tenant-admin. Ask your tenant-admin to send invitations on your behalf.
- 2
Click "Invite members"
A modal opens. You can enter multiple email addresses at once, separated by commas or newlines.
- 3
Select a role for the batch
All emails in one batch get the same role. If you're inviting a mix of architects and contributors, do them in separate batches.
- 4
Send the invitations
Northwise sends an invitation email from
noreply@getnorthwise.comwith a personalised link. The link is valid for 7 days. - 5
Follow up
Invited users appear in the Pending tab of the Team page until they accept. You can resend or revoke invitations from there.
What invitees experience
The invitee receives an email with a "Join [Your Tenant Name] on Northwise" button. Clicking it:
- Takes them to the sign-up page if they don't have a Northwise account yet (they set a password and verify their email)
- Or logs them in and joins them to your tenant automatically if they already have an account
After joining, they land on the Dashboard in your tenant.
Managing existing members
From Settings → Team you can:
- Change role — promote or demote any member (except yourself). Takes effect immediately.
- Remove member — removes them from the tenant. Their data (comments, findings they raised) is preserved but attributed to "Former member".
- Transfer tenant-admin — you can designate another Architect as co-admin or hand off the admin role entirely.
Removing a member does not automatically free up a billable seat. Seats are managed on the Billing page — you can reduce your seat count at the next billing cycle.
Seat limits by plan
| Plan | Architect seats | Contributor seats | | ---------- | ---------------------- | ----------------- | | Free | 1 (you only) | — | | Team | Unlimited | Unlimited | | Business | Unlimited | Unlimited | | Enterprise | Unlimited (negotiated) | Unlimited |
On the Free plan, you're the only Architect. You can invite unlimited Readers. To add more architects or enable contributors, upgrade to Team.
